Biological Hotspots

Step Wise Guide

Aquatic/Riparian Habitats

·     Where are my biological (aquatic) hotspots located?

“Biological hotspots” are zones where certain habitat forming processes are concentrated in watersheds. This can include low channel gradients, wide floodplains, log jams, tributary confluences, transitions in valley widths, and particular lighting conditions.

Step 1: Go To NetMap Aquatic Habitat Tools > Create Aquatic Habitats. In the upper left hand corner in the drop down list, select “Biological hotspots”. Select one or more attributes from the drop down list such as gradient, floodplain widths and tributary confluences. Set the weighting (preference curves) based on your judgment. Play around with different combinations. See how the maps look.
