Habitat Diversity

Step Wise Guide

Aquatic/Riparian Habitats

·     Where are the channels located with the greatest habitat diversity?

Areas of higher habitat diversity can be related to higher biological diversity. For example, a channel that is straight, narrow and contains a coarse substrate (like boulders) for long distances (kilometers) may have a lower biological diversity compared to channels that change in character, transitioning from straight, steep and narrow, to lower gradient with wider floodplains and intersecting tributaries.  To locate areas of higher physical diversity, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Go To NetMap Aquatic Habitat Tools > Habitat Diversity. In the upper left hand corner in the drop down list, select either “Channel” or Floodplain” diversity. Run the tool. Refer to the Tech Help for guidance.
